New York Will Be A Major U.S Market to Watch

Although New York is one of the largest and most attractive markets in the United States, its medical marijuana program was very slow to gain traction due the number of restrictions placed on potential patients, doctors, and operators.

That is all starting to change and the New York medical marijuana market is starting to gain significant traction after the state’s Department of Health added chronic pain as a qualifying condition in late March.

DEA Needs to Focus on a Real Problem. Synthetic Marijuana

During the first five months of 2015, the number of people who have died from synthetic marijuana has tripled when compared to the same period last year. On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a report that said 15 people have died this year from synthetic marijuana and that the number of calls to poison control centers has also skyrocketed.

Big Apple Rallies for Recreational Marijuana

On Saturday, hundreds of people attended the fourth annual NYC Cannabis Parade in New York City's Union Square to commemorate the 2015 Global Cannabis March. Marijuana advocates rallied together to support the legalization of marijuana in New York State.  

Troy Smit is the organizer of the parade. He told NBC News that the purpose of the NYC Cannabis Parade is to "end the war on drugs, release the medicine, free the prisoners, heal the sick, and unite the nations."

New York Accepting Applications to become a Registered Marijuana Organization

On Monday, the New York State Department of Health announced that they are accepting applications from businesses that are interested in becoming a registered medical marijuana organization. Such an organization would be allowed to manufacture and dispense medical marijuana in New York. The state expects to register the selected businesses by July.
