- Sativex was the first medicine available to patients that was 100% derived from the Cannabis plant. GW Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: GWPH) is responsible for developing Sativex, an oral spray that first came out in June 2010. Patients would treat muscle tightness caused by Multiple Sclerosis by spraying Sativex into their mouth.
- Researchers at UCLA conducted a study and found no correlation between lung cancer and the use of marijuana. The researchers also concluded that marijuana might even have a “protective effect” against lung cancer.

- The cannabis plant contains over 400 different chemical compounds, including Vitamin A.
- Marijuana was added to the United States Pharmacopoeia, the official public record of all prescription and over-the-counter medications, over 164 years ago. It was removed in 1942.
- Marinol was the first marijuana-based medication to be approved by the FDA. Marinol contains a synthetic form of THC, but it is not considered to be derived from cannabis.
- California was the first state to legalize medical marijuana in 1996. Currently, 23 states, and the District of Columbia have legalized medical marijuana.
