Forbes recently conducted a study where they researched the average price of marijuana in all 50 states. They released the results of the study and the findings were interesting, but not shocking. The study found that marijuana is cheapest in states that have created a legal recreational marijuana program.
The results of the study showed that you can purchase one ounce of high quality marijuana for less than $300 in Washington, Oregon, Colorado and Alaska. According to the study, Oregon is the state with the lowest average price for marijuana in the United States. In Oregon, the average price of one ounce of marijuana is $204. This is almost half the cost of one ounce of marijuana in North Dakota, where prices are the highest in the country. One ounce of marijuana in North Dakota costs $387. According to PriceOfWeed.com, the nationwide average for one ounce of marijuana is $324.
Forbes made an interesting price comparison off of the results they found. Forbes said that someone who smokes one ounce of marijuana every month can move from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Portland, Oregon and save enough money to cover the cost of premium cable.
Even though recreational marijuana became legal in the District of Columbia in March, the commercial sale of marijuana remains illegal. For that reason, the average price of one ounce of marijuana is $346 in the District of Columbia. Analysts expect this average to decrease once marijuana is no longer prohibited there.
