Following the completion of a merger with Aphria, Tilray (TSX: TLRY) (Nasdaq: TLRY) has been frequently highlighted on major financial media platforms. We believe the combined company owns high-value, strategic cannabis assets in North America and the European Union (EU).
Earlier this week, Tilray CEO Irwin Simon was featured on CNBC and spoke about his positive view on the increased interest of many Reddit users and Generation Z as retail investors as well as the progress the business has made since completing the merger.
We believe the most significant development reported by Tilray CEO Simon was the partnership with Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL). He mentioned that a new beer from SweetWater will be available on Delta flights and stated that he could see beverages with cannabidiol (CBD) and = tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) available on flights in the future.
Prior to being featured on CNBC, Tilray announced the launch of Symbios, a complement to the company’s existing medical brand portfolio in Canada. The brand was developed to provide a broader spectrum of formats and unique cannabinoid ratios at a better price point while offering medical patients a full comprehensive assortment of products (i.e. flower, oils, and pre-rolls) for their health and wellness regiment.
Tilray also announced new high-potency, medical cannabis topicals under the Aphria brand that are designed to target inflammatory joint disease. Symbios and Aphria’s new high potency topicals join a range of other products that are now available to all medical patients through the Aphria online medical patient portal and we will monitor how the business ramps.
Tilray CEO Simon stated that the integrating is advancing, and we are favorable on his focus on cutting costs. The Canadian and international business has been integrated and we find this to be an important first step. He believes the integration process is in the early innings and we will be monitoring how the story advances from here.
The Delta relationship will take time to ramp and the first product available on flights is a SweetWater IPA. If you look at how the relationship between HEXO Corp. (HEXO) (Nasdaq: HEXO) and Molson Coors has advanced, you will notice that it took a few years to get the relationship to where it is today.
We believe that Tilray’s new management team is bringing the business down the right path and are bullish on the growth prospects that are associated with the global operation.
